Start with the climate risk you want to solve. This page helps users explore ABM activity types and shape a project concept that responds to a clearly defined climate impact. By browsing event types, climate parameters and activity categories, project developers can move from an early idea toward a structured ABM activity.

Under the Adaptation Benefits Mechanism, adaptation activities are grouped in a typology that links weather and climate parameters to the impacts people, systems and ecosystems need to adapt to. This makes it easier to identify relevant approaches, compare similar intervention types and prepare for the next steps in the ABM activity cycle. For ease of navigation, the page uses the word project, while the formal ABM term remains ABM activity.

Find the right ABM activity type for your project

The ABM typology clusters adaptation activities that can deliver comparable Adaptation Benefits. It is designed to help users distinguish climate adaptation from broader development action by organizing activity types according to weather and climate parameters and the related impacts to be addressed.

The typology follows a clear structure: event type, climate parameter, climate impact and activity category. In practice, this means users can browse sudden extreme events and slow onset events, filter by parameters such as precipitation, wind, temperature or sea-level rise, and then focus on the specific impact their project is designed to address.

How to use this page

  • Search for the climate risk, impact or response that best matches your idea.
  • Filter the results by event type, climate parameter and activity category.
  • Open a matching activity card to review illustrative adaptation measures and identify the most relevant direction for your concept.
  • Use the selected activity type as a starting point for your concept note or Activity Description Document.
